BIOGRAPHY: Barbara
was born in 1972 in Chile to a nominal Roman Catholic family. At
the age of 7 she started attending church with her mother, who was
converted through an Aunt. In her late teens Barbara gave her heart
to the Lord, and her two brothers and father followed suit. At the
age of 19 she joined the OM Ship Logos II, where she served for
two and a half years in the Program and Public Relations department,
developing a burning commitment to mission through the experience.
Daniel was born in 1971 in Israel to an Anglo-Israeli missionary
family. Despite growing in a Christian home he rebelled against
his parents faith throughout most of his teens, and only came to
know Christ as his Lord and Saviour at 17. In 1992, following service
in the Israeli Army, he felt the Lord was calling him to South America
and began travelling there, joining the Logos II several months
later in Ecuador.
As you might have guessed, we met onboard that remarkable ship Logos
II. We were married a couple of years later and settled in Edinburgh,
Scotland, where Daniel completed studies in theology and development.
In 1998 we were back in South America with SAMS, serving a couple
of years in a project for street children in Brazil, and a further
2 years in a community development project with Pehuenche Indians
in southern Chile (where our son Joshua was born). We returned to
the UK in 2002 and settled in Cambridge to take further studies
in development (our second son Nathanael was born at this point).
In 2003, looking to serve Him with a development agency in Bolivia,
we found out about FHI.
REASON
FOR WORKING WITH FHI:
We were searching for a professional Christian
development agency that does not neglect the spiritual significance
in the process of a person or a community's transformation. We strongly
empathize with FHI's holistic interpretation and practice of development. |
