Food for the Hungry International/Bolivia reaches more than 220
communities in the poorest and most food-insecure rural areas
of Bolivia. Through agriculture, health training, natural resource
management, and the various other programs that make up FHI/Bolivia,
we work to help communities counter the multidimensional causes
and manifestations of poverty by enhancing their quality of life.
Programs are not seen as an end in themselves but as means—a
vehicle through which participant community members learn to devise
solutions and orchestrate activities that benefit the community.
Our mission is to see the harsh reality of poverty transformed
as communities recognize their potential and commit to moving
forward together.
In order to help see our mission fulfilled, Food for the Hungry
International has developed the “Vision of a Community”
as a blueprint for every community we enter. While we are at work
in a community, there is a continual need to be aware of the effect
our presence is having. If we are successful in the work we do
within a community, what does the community look like when we
leave? The “Vision of a Community” provides a framework
for this.
Through its Vision of a Community, FHI/Bolivia focuses efforts
